After a phonecall from Sarah I decided against going up to the Solstice celebration next to hers and to have a bonfire here instead, to which she was welcomed, but didn't eventually make it, but the thought was there, and it did motivate me to do the bonfire.

The kids were more than happy to go off wooding, which was just what I needed to get me out of crazy mode. They wanted to go back and finish decorating their little secret tree in the graveyard, which they did with ivy and fallen holly berries, stuck onto birch twigs. They found a fantastic wooded place to explore and we found plenty of wood, although a lot of it was somewhat rotten, we did manage to get it to burn eventually, with the help of a few logs that were too big for the stove.

We watched the solstice eve sun go down and when we got home Fergus lit the bonfire.

Later, after it got dark, we went back out and sat round the blazing fire eating soup, hot mince pies and drinking hot mulled wine, which tasted good from enamel mugs. meanwhile the owl was hooting away in the graveyard. They then had a fire-stick twirling/waving session, possibly fuelled by the mulled wine.
