I found this great hunk of birch, which was worthy of a yule log. We decorated it with lavender, rosemary, bay, rowan berries, pine cones, and dried orange slices tied on with string, and cloves stuck in the cracks. We tied on wishes made from paper and put it in the fire.
I love celebrating winter solstice. There is no anticipation- it's very of the moment and spontaneous. This is really the best time for me. Now I don't have to worry about Christmas as we have done the important stuff now, without really planning or buying anything. The time of the winter solstice has just passed.
