still househunting

Since Friday, after work, I have been looking for houses, looking at houses, thinking about houses, trying not to think too much about houses. It's been driving me a bit bonkers, even though I have accepted that I just have to wait until the right house comes along and if my house sale falls through, then I will just have to put it on the market. I have been looking a bit further afield, like on the way to Todmorden, but nothing so far has felt quite right, or had all the requirements (garden, 3-4 bedrooms, those are the basic ones). I have just seen this fantastic house at the right price which is massive and really lovley, with spring water, solid fuel heating and a chicken shed, but it is on the other side of Tod (which is 4 miles from Hebden) and Meg is not keen. She practically lives in Hebden, working there most days, and is at college in Halifax, which is in the other direction. But, she is leaving in the summer, and I'm sure she could get another job - there are cafes in Tod, after all. I havent been to look at it yet, as I thought it was too far away, but it is quite appealing. I have looked at places that were more conveniently located, but can't quite imagine living there. I just want I simple life, to grow a bit of veg and have a lovely place for my children to grow in.
I just found out who gazumped me as well- my buyer told me- he heard it in the pub! So he knows and doesn't seem too worried. (I would be!). It was the coal merchant- MY coal merchant, or should I say, X- coal merchant. Well, I shouln't be bitter, I know, and anyway about a thrid of the people on the close know me quite well, and will know what they have done! So they will have to live with that. I don't know, some people.

go view it with the children, if they start discussing plans for living there then you will know it's the right one

yes, well I think there may be some room for chickens at the latest dream house, especially if they're not afraid of heights...
