This isn't right. It's not even wrong.

This morning I was greeted by the local paper on the doormat announcing that the "fustian sundial is to be allowed to shine" in Hebden Bridge. Meanwhile the frenzy of the letters page has escalated into philosophical musings on the relativity of wrong. The above was quoted from theoretical physicist Wolfgang Pauli, who's incidental claim to fame is the Pauli effect ("the apparently mysterious failure of technical equipment in the presence of certain people").
The thing is, they are putting a 10 foot high sundial right in the middle of Hebden Bridge, which no-body knew about. Nobody even knows what fustian is. It is the fabiric formerly made in Hebden Bridge, AKA corduroy, before it ceased to be a textile town, many years ago.
Meanwhile the streets are suddenly being patrolled by two, yes two traffic wardens, (for safety, presumably). This morning I asked one of them, (who was ticketing the car parked behind mine and I made Freddie run all along Crown Street in case it was mine) how long I had been parked there, as I didn't have a clue. It was an hour spot: there are only 1 hour spots now, since the new traffic system, which leaves you not quite enough time to go to the market and chat to anyone you might bump into there. This is shopping by numbers. At 17 minutes past 11 precisely you will make a speedy decision about which type of flowers you prefer today...They didn't have a clue either. They're only there to collect money for Calderdale, who have sold us down the river, but what for?
Anyway, I am not dwelling too hard on the thoughtlessness and incapability of these particular "pale theoreticians". It's only a sundial, which is, after all, what every wet northern small town needs. And I could use the bus, or shop somewhere else! No, I need to focus my thoughts on more pressing issues, like the proposed/possible changes to Home Education rights and do something.
